A drop in enquiries can have a few causes that look the same from the inside. Your market may be slower. A competitor may have started bidding harder for the same searches. Your contact form may have broken on phones. Or people may be finding you and then not getting in touch. Before you decide it's AI, go back through the last six to twelve months and split the traffic by source and by page. If the drop is in visits from search, that's one story. If visits held but enquiries fell, that's a different one.
A site ranking well doesn't always mean it gets clicks. Check your Search Console impressions against clicks, because those can drift apart when Google shows more answers on the results page itself.
Nobody can see a full trail, but you can get clues. Ask every new enquiry how they heard about you, and make it a normal question, not a survey. Some people will say they asked an assistant and it mentioned you. Watch for visits that arrive with no search term and no referrer, which often means someone copied your address from an app. Look at your direct traffic too. A rise there with a fall in search can hint at people who saw a name in a chat and typed it in later.
The honest answer is that you'll only ever catch part of it. Treat the clues as a rough guide, not proof.
Whether someone uses Google, an AI tool or a friend's recommendation, they're trying to answer the same things. What do you do, where, for whom, and how do I get in touch. Make those answers obvious on your pages in plain words. Write a clear page for each service with the area, the price range if you can share it, and a short list of questions you actually get asked. Make the contact route easy to find on a phone.
Also keep your listings accurate. Business directories and map profiles feed a lot of the information assistants pull from, so an old phone number or a vague description costs you in more than one place.
If you want to start from what you already have, give Acorn Pages your current address and it rebuilds your site as a new one that works on phones, with your pages and pictures carried over. If you'd rather start fresh, describe the business in a sentence or two and AI builds a site and writes its first words.
The features that fit this problem best are these. Questions page answers the questions people ask your kind of business, drawn from your site, with the rest left for you to fill in and marked up for search. Answers for visitors adds an Ask button that answers from your own pages and passes the visitor to you when your site doesn't say, so nobody leaves with a question unanswered. Answer every message drafts a reply in your voice from your Messages screen and reminds you of anything that waited a day. Search titles suggests page titles in the words people search for, covering what you do and where.
Give us your website's address and we'll rebuild its home page, free, with a short report on what it's missing.
